What is this, a mission for ants?!
Whew, a lot to talk about this week, but I'll try to keep it short. Last week for p-day we roamed the streets of Main Street Atherton, just looking in this stores, There was this one museum that has the biggest geode in the world or something, but we didn't have enough time to go through the whole museum to make it worth the admission cost, so we'll have to try it another time. I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday morning that I casually opened up the drawer to pull out some clothes, and there were ANTS in my clothes, there were EGGS in my clothes, it was GROSS in my clothes, and they weren't regular black ants either, they were big, nasty, a-grade, organically fed, Angus beef Australian ants on STEROIDS. So I noped and shook out all my clothes and washed em and hosed those punks down with some bug kill spray and vacuumed them out of my drawer. Hopefully that'll be the last I see of bugs in my clothes.
Thursday we had trade offs with the Innisfail elders, I went to their area with Elder Acevedo, from Puerto Rico. He's a cool guy, lots of fun, we did service for a guy in his ward who has collected heaps of junk over the years, thinking he's gonna do something with it, but instead it just sits in his yard and rusts or decomposes or combusts or explodes, or all of the above, etc etc. For lunch we bought loaded fries from this burger place, I wish I had taken a picture but dang, it was good. I can't even remember what they had on them, but trust me, they were LOADED. When we traded back off it was rainy and foggy and dark so I'll attach a couple pictures.
Friday was sad because we added a new investigator we added to our teaching pool last week dropped us, just left the Book of Mormon on the porch with a note that said she's decided she's going to stick with her current church. Which is weird, because she was so keen talking to us at first. Man. That night though, we were able to reconnect with an investigator that hasn't been visited in a while. That's the thing about this area. The past missionaries had heaps of good investigators but just stopped visiting them for no particular reason, so we've already found a couple investigators that were never dropped, the missionaries just stopped going by. Kind of frustrating, but I guess it makes it easier for us to find people to teach.
Saturday there was a multicultural festival in Mareeba, one of the towns in our area, and one of our investigators was performing in a Tongan dance so we went to watch that, and visited a couple investigators. That night we had a session of district conference, which was really good, but since it was all the way up in Cairns we stayed at the Cairns Elders' flat overnight. The mission president and an area seventy were there, and one of our investigator families came, so that was awesome. There's a really big push to make the district a stake and a lot of it was focused on increasing priesthood responsibility and members finding people for the missionaries to teach. The area seventy, Elder Hamilton, he's this short old Australian guy who couldn't stop himself from making jokes in his talks but never smiled while doing it. Everyone loved his talks, they were really good.
After conference we went to the Koses, a member's house, and the Tokarahis, another member family and the Alofis, the investigator family who came to conference and we had dinner together, I think the Alofis could get baptized really soon, they have really good member fellowship.
So yeah overall good week.
Elder Cummings
