The hardest part of every week is thinking of something to put in the subject heading of my weekly email. No not really but it's still pretty hard. I'm sure you're all thinking it but the dog bite is doing just fine. At this stage it's pretty much healed, just scabbed a little at the puncture wounds. So yeah, I'll be okay. The reason I'm emailing so late in the week is because we had a temple p-day today. Next week it'll be on Tuesday I think because it'll be transfers. I really hope I don't get transferred but by next week we'll see.
On Wednesday we were able to see a really keen potential investigator before she flew up to Cairns for a little while to visit family. We had a really good lesson and she had a lot of interest because she believes that something has helped her get through the hard times in her life to get to the point that she's at now, and we told her about how God helps us get though those trials to bring us better blessings. She committed to read from the Book of Mormon while she's on vacation up north so hopefully she has a cool experience with that.
Thursday we did a couple hours of service, Sister McClure needed us to plant some palm trees in her backyard, which was super hard because the dirt was all packed dry and tight and the only shovel she had was this 3' long square one that was pretty much useless. But we powered through it and she was pretty happy with the job we did. Then we hauled a bunch of stuff out from behind another less active sister's house to the curb for the curbside collection thing. It was mostly just a microwave, a mattress, a TV and heaps of DVDs and DVD cases. We found a couple of gnarly looking spiders that were pretty cool but they escaped pretty fast.
Friday we had weekly planning, which is always pretty draining but we were able to talk to this one guy for a while at his door about lots of different things. We tried setting an appointment with him but like a lot of Australians they just say they'd love for us to visit again but they can't commit to a time because they're busy with one thing or another. We taught Jude and reset our baptismal date with him for August 20. That night we saw Roy, a less active we haven't seen in a while so that was pretty awesome.
Saturday we taught another good lesson while finding. We lightning visited a member but it stretched longer than it should have because Brother Bell went on this lecture about how the Word of Wisdom doesn't expressly forbid tea and such so as long as the tea has beneficial medicinal effects it's not breaking the word of wisdom, and then he told us about his tea business and showed us his tea brewing set. Funny thing is this guy is only a few years home from his mission but is a pretty slack guy.
Sunday we were finally able to see our investigator John for the first time this transfer. He's doing really well, since I've come out on my mission he and his member (kind of member) wife have been reading the scriptures, coming to church, and praying, so he's ready, but he just doesn't feel confident enough to commit to baptism. But we were able to have a really good lesson with him about as long as he has that desire to follow the Savior than He can take care of the rest and make up for when he falls short, which is mostly what John is afraid of. We've been thinking we might sic the senior couple missionaries on them because they're really good at talking to people that are riiiiiight there to getting baptized.
Monday we had an awesome lesson with one of our new investigators, Jackson. His friend from work was there hanging out playing Black Ops and we invited him to join us, thinking he'd just kind of shrug us off but to our surprise he was like "you want me to have a pray with you? sure, i guess" and kind of laughed about it but ended up being really engaged in the lesson we shared about the Restoration. Me and Elder Banks bore really strong testimony about how we know our message is true. We were able to connect with Jackson and his friend Marty really well because they're our age and both of them actually committed to read from the Book of Mormon and they seemed pretty hit with the Spirit. So we're looking forward to teaching them some more.
Yesterday we had trade-offs with the Mango Hill elders, so Elder Banks went to work with Elder Foster while I stayed in Bracken Ridge and worked with Elder Bodeeletkasaem (BO-dee-LET-ka-sem) from Thailand. He's a really funny guy. We had zone meeting in the morning and we spent most of the rest of the day door knocking. Didn't find anyone too keen. We visited Jude and were talking to him outside his house about temples when he accidentally stepped on a rusty nail and started bleeding. Luckily the YM president of the ward was there talking to Jude's older brother so he was able to help handle things and calm Jude down. He'll probably have to get that checked out, we prayed together for him to be okay. We had dinner with Matt Dragon which is always fun and gave a blessing to a single sister in the ward with Brother Carter, a Chilean brother who we have a pretty good relationship with. Then we traded back and today we went to the temple with the rest of the zone, had Subway after. Everything was all good. I can't believe it's already the end of the transfer! Really hope I stay, fingers crossed!
