Our p-day is back on Monday today, so that's why it's so soon since my last email. Not a huge amount of stuff has happened, obviously, but little cool things happen every day. One of the best things is that we were able to reset our baptismal date with Jude! Our original date was the 28th but his family didn't come to church at all since we set that date so it didn't pan out. They've been really busy with school and hospital visits and things but we were able to commit them to a new date on the 25th of June!
We had dinner with a Sister in the ward almost a week ago and she was telling us about this birthday party she was having for her one year old granddaughter and how much money their family was spending on it, how many people they were inviting, etc. Little did we realize that among the people she invited were almost all of the people we had appointments with the day of the birthday party. Pretty much all of our appointments and a lot of our backups fell through because seriously, everyone was at this child's one year birthday party, it was ridiculous! Polynesians, they're crazy. We drove by the Sister's house and there were tons of people. On Sunday at stake conference she asked us why we didn't come over because there were lots of non-members who would have wanted to talk to us, and I screamed a little (a lot) inside because I kind of wanted to go but my companion didn't think it would be as effective, even though as it was we were already wasting our time driving to different people's houses who weren't even home.
Other than that, we've started making increased efforts to teach lessons while door knocking. This one girl we were able to teach a lesson to at the door because I said "We're coming around and talking to people because we have the answers of where we came from, why we're here, and where we're going." And I expected her to say like most people "Ok, no thanks I'm not interested. Cheers!" but she paused for a second and then said "so what are the answers?" So we gave a really brief overview of the plan of salvation and she seemed to really agree with it even though she said she didn't have a specific religion or faith. That was really cool. Yesterday when we were door knocking we ran into a Uniting Church minister and he invited us in and talked to us about he agreed with our concept of the Godhead and believed the Book of Mormon is inspired writings. He didn't give us a lot of time to talk but he was a really nice guy.
Yesterday was stake conference as well, and all the missionaries in the zone handed out 8 Book of Mormons each to members and challenged them to give a copy to a non-member friend/family member. We took down their names and ward so the missionaries could follow up with them later, and it was really cool because we were able to hand out all 100+ BoMs and there were a lot of members who readily accepted the challenge and already had someone in mind that they could give it to. That was a really fun experience.
That about wraps it up for this week. Love you all and I'll write you again in a week!
